Tax Preparation Service

AppCAA Tax Preparation Services provides FREE tax preparation to help taxpayers file their Federal and State taxes. This is not limited to only the southwest Virginia region, individuals from any county or state are able to apply for this service. Tax preparation is offered year round. AppCAA’s Tax Preparation Service is in partnership with the Virginia CASH Campaign operated through the Virginia Community Action Partnership (VACAP) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). During 2022, AppCAA prepared tax returns that totaled just under $1,000,000 for the 2021 tax season, with an estimated $139,000 saved in tax preparation fees. Taxes are prepared at our office located at 175 Military Lane, Gate City, Virginia, but can also be completed entirely electronically.

Please download or print your application after it is filled out and either email it to taxprep@appcaa.org or bring it to our Gate City location with the following documents:

Proof of identification; copies of social security cards for you, your spouse, and your dependents; a copy of last year’s tax return (if we did not prepare your taxes last year); all W-2 and 1099 forms; Forms 1095A marketplace insurance; information for other income, interest and dividend statements from your bank (form 1099-int); total paid to day care provider and their tax ID number; direct deposit information (bank account and routing numbers, such as a voided check; A CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD WILL NOT WORK).
