Our commitment

Appalachian Community Action and Development Agency (AppCAA) is committed to making appcaa.org accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. Access to information about our programs and services should be straightforward for every member of the communities we serve.

Standard we follow

We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. This is the standard set by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Section 504 Web Rules (45 CFR Part 84 Subpart I) for recipients of federal financial assistance.

Current accessibility status

As of May 10, 2026, appcaa.org partially supports WCAG 2.1 Level AA. An independent accessibility evaluation was completed on May 5, 2026 and identified a set of issues that are now being addressed. Full conformance is targeted for completion in summer 2026.

What we are currently addressing

The remediation work underway includes:

• Improving color contrast on heading text so it meets readability requirements
• Replacing the auto-rotating homepage carousel with a static section that does not move without user control
• Repairing the “Skip to content” link so people using screen readers can bypass repeated navigation
• Adding alternative text descriptions to images across the site
• Replacing the downloadable Volunteer Application and Employment Application PDFs with accessible web forms
• Resolving smaller technical and structural issues identified in the evaluation
  

Legacy documents

Some documents on this site, including our Community Needs Assessments and historical Financial Audit Reports, were posted before our compliance date of May 11, 2026 and are exempt from full accessibility remediation under 45 CFR 84.85(b), which covers preexisting conventional electronic documents. We maintain internal documentation of which documents are covered by this exemption and the basis for it.
